Working at Playing

I try to only have "productive and imaginative" toys. We have lots of arts and crafts (paint, beads, paper, stickers, etc) fun activity books (dot to dot, mazes, hidden pictures), blocks, trains, dolls, cars, puzzles and some Lauri education toys.

I love to see them each doing their own thing, being "studious" and content to look at books or work on something. *Although I must say I despise the Expo markers as they tend to ruin clothing.* So just fyi, it's not wise to let your 22 month old son try to write with one. : )

Because he will not only write on the book and himself but he come to attack you with the offensive marker.

They decided to use toliet paper to wipe the pages clean but I didn't limit a piece per person so our living room looked like a fluff factory. Baby wipes work great at cleaning off Expo marker no matter how long it's been left on the page.

Katie is my little kitchen helper here of late. She sits on the counter while I attend to the kitchen duties. She's not much for being worn backwards anymore. Anyone know of a good out facing carrier? I have a Bjorn but it hurts my shoulders and back. I know there is controversy over front facing carriers, something about the hip or something of the baby but I'm asking for recommendations regardless.

Puzzles have become a big thing over the weeks as of late. The girls get so excited when they complete a puzzle. I've got to be on the lookout for some more easy puzzles.

We've not been doing much "official" school here lately. We've been working on our math facts (doubles, minus and plus 1), counting backwards from 30, counting by 2's and 10's. and talking about 1/2 and whole. Nothing scheduled just random throughout the day.  We've been doing lots of animal reading from some discount book store books and we are taking a break from phonics. It was becoming too emotional and dreaded so we've just been doing lots of family reading and me pointing at words she can sound out.

We're coloring lots of Bible story pictures and talking about the related Bible passage. We've been watching Swiss Family Robinson, totally envious of their seculded tree house. As you might know we are house hunting and Maggie has decided that she wants the Swiss Family house and I completely agree. Oh, and I saw Courageous for the first time yesterday. It had me in tears of sadness and belly aches from laughter. It was a great movie. More details on the house hunting and selling coming soon.

I remember so much of those days, with no bigger ones to help out. Now I'm so spoiled with all the older children helping and doing so much for me.

I love all the puzzles. We love to put them together. That and a big box of dominoes :-)

I have bought our little guy his own dry erase board from Wal-Mart. They are pretty small. When I need him to stay at the kitchen table i pull it out and give him a dry erase marker and let him go at it.

I've mainly used a backpack for carrying babies. Or I have them in a swing or in a bouncy seat. I've never really carried them around full time, hurts my back too!

You are smart to lay off on reading if it's not working right now. They will learn in time.

Great pictures of everyone~ Cinnamon

Hi CInnamon. I had not thought of dominos. I will certainly have to add that to our list! I know the girls will love them! Thanks for mentioning that!
